The goal of technology exploitation is to research, review and recommend an array of potential technologies and services that are best suited to bring the desired results in mission execution.  Research may include old, existing, or emerging technologies from multiple fields of technology and science.  Services include:

Technology Scouting

Technology scouting is research and evaluation of technologies and services from multiple sources to provide the broadest market look and focus the solutions search to the best fit for the mission.

Most technology scouting engagements are structured as follows:

  1. Meet with client representative to determine desired targeted technologies and trends prior to departure for the conference.
  2. Pre-plan the activities, meetings, and sessions for the period of the conference.
  3. Travel as required
  4. Attend conference
  • Meet with appropriate industry representatives
  • Scout targeted technologies
  • Attend any appropriate technical sessions for the duration of the conference
  • Technical review and when available hands on interaction with targeted technologies
  • Interviews with appropriate manufactures, and manufacture representatives.
  • Collection of appropriate contact information and technical documentation.
  1. Write a report on the targeted technologies and trends

Example:

Attend an industry conference (i.e. CES, INTEROP, or the National Space Symposium) and review companies and products for a specific requirement.  For example attend CES and identify, perform initial research and analysis, and write a report on Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) manufactures and products.
